Welcome to
Grass Valley Florist

We’re here in Grass Valley, CA with Ingrid, owner of Grass Valley Florist.

“Our shop is more unique than other floral shops. We have lots of gift items and also have a drive through coffee shop. People come in here and just relax in the environment.
“I’ve had this shop since 1996.  A few years after that I got the bright idea of putting coffee into the flower shop.  It’s a drive through that allows you to get whatever you want, lattes, hot chocolates, breves, blended drinks.

“We also serve food in the mornings. A local company bakes for us, so we offer breakfast burritos, fritadas, and muffins.  We also have locally roasted coffee beans just to keep with the local flair.  People can also come in and sit down—we’ve also got a patio.
“Over the last ten years we’ve incorpoated antiques into the store, so we have a vintage flare to sit in.  You can buy most of the furniture in the store.
“We also decided just this past year to bring in clothing and accesssories—those have been doing really well.  We keep our price points very affordable.
“You have to be an artist in order to become a florist.  I like the creativity of it all, plus the customer reactions.  I enjoy just being able to interact with the customers.
“We love a garden look and its kind of our style.  We use any kind of flower you can imgaine: roses, iris, hydrangea, dahlia, tulips, daisies, larkspur, dephinium, orchids, and all diferent kinds of tropicals.”
“We typically use 3 to 5 different greens in an arrangment to start such . I love using lemon, huckleberry, myrtle.  We’re pretty picky so everything we get is top of the line quality flowers.
“The true love here is flower; helping people everyday with whatever their flower needs are.  On their saddest day or happiest day, we’re here to help and serve.  We love what we do.”

The Magic of Flowers and Plants
Flowers always say, "You're special!"

There is nothing like the thrill of receiving flowers. You feel special: someone is thinking about you, wanting to lift your spirits and make your day!
Flowers touch all our senses, from visual vibrant colors to sweet fragrances.  These powerful elements evoke pleasant memories of past times.  Flowers are timeless, and bring those sweet memories to the present.
Who isn’t thrilled by the brilliance of color, the richness of life in the garden!  We give plants and flowers  because we love the beauty of the outdoors.  Giving plants and flowers as gifts brings the garden indoors for us to enjoy.
     More to consider:
Flowers can be a gift for anyone.
From son to father, daughter to mom, friend to friend... tell someone they are special with flowers.
    Give flowers at unexpected times.
Giving flowers is a spontaneous act of kindness that will brighten any person’s day.
Consider flowers as a thank you!  Acknowledge all that someone has done for you by giving them flowers.
The bottom line: let someone know that you are thinking about them. Flowers always say, “I’m here for you!”

There is a whole world of flowers out there...
get to know them!

Flowers come in a marvelous variety of shapes, sizes, and colors.  Try something new and interesting the next time you order.   By learning the flower choices, you can personalize your arrangements to suit your taste or that of your recipient.  For example, if your mom loves hydrangeas, you will know what to ask for.

Ordering from a florist is going to be much easier when you can tell them specifically what flowers you like. The guide that follows represents some of the more common flower choices available in flower shops.  Ask your florist for their expert opinion in picking your flowers.  Working closely with your florist will get you the best results!

What are your tips for Romance?

What are your tips for Romance?
“Nothing is better than getting the surprise element of getting flowers.  We stray away from the traditional dozen roses and instead I suggest a lily, in a garden looking arrangement with some roses and always try to have some fragrance in it and always in a vase never in a basket.  Its just classier.
“We just had a customer with an anniversary, he set this up two weeks beforehand at the nicest restaurant in town and wanted the flowers to be delivered there.  The arrangement was in a cobalt blue pedestal vase which flared out and had a 10 inch opening. The flowers were clusters of tulips drooping down on one side, orchids flaring out on the other side, roses clustered out towards the top.  I don’t know how they got it home it was so big.  It was drippy, clustered and just gorgeous.  Now that’s romance!”

  Why are flowers so important?

“What’s old is new again, so people are going back.  Giving flowers in a wrapped bouquet is old school, old tradition, and old fashioned.  We’ve gone so far from traditional that we’re coming back around.
“Everything is cyclic, and I really believe we’re coming back to old tradition.  The kids want traditional corsages when they come in now.  I just think its an old fashioned thing, its simple, and it speaks emotion.  So when you receive flowers you get an emotion that you don’t get with anything else because its so simple. “

Any tips for Sympathy?

“I try to make it as simple, as painless, as possible.  I listen, I guide them, I show them the book, and then I try to ask about the person, what they were like, so that we can create something more personal.
“We do more than just make flowers for people, it’s a relationship. Sometimes you do get a relationship an entire family. We have many customers that we’ve had for over 20 years, sometimes you start with the baby, high school, then weddings, then new babies, then funeral, and you see the whole cycles of a family and that’s when you know you have a relationship with your community.”
